Hospice of the Chesapeake recently announced that Jasmine Crew, RN, BSN, has been selected to lead its Prince George’s County clinical teams as Director of clinical services. She will be working with staff, referral partners and the community through the nonprofit’s office at 9500 Medical Center Drive in Largo, Maryland.
Crew began working as a hospice nurse soon after graduating in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Coppin State University. By 2011, she was in a leadership position as a clinical manager with Professional Healthcare Resources. Her last position before joining Hospice of the Chesapeake was as a patient care administrator with VITAS Healthcare.
Crew takes on the director’s role that was last held by Regina Moody, who was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2017. Moody said she found herself in the unique position of finding her own replacement, which provided an added layer of insight into the qualities the job required. At the top of that list was to find a professional who was not only willing, but eager to reach out beyond the clinical environment and into the community.
“We are serving a county where the residents are unfamiliar and uncomfortable with the word ‘hospice.’ We, as an organization, are working to change that and I believe Jasmine, with her compassionate, nurturing and go-getter attitude will be at the very center of that change,” Moody said.
Crew said all that she has done in the past 13 years has been leading up to this position, which she sees as a vehicle to fulfill her goal of bringing the end-of-life conversation to the underserved community, the part of her job she treasures the most. She is passionate about educating the community about the purpose and availability of hospice care. “I really just want to get the idea of hospice out there, especially to families and patients, most of whom don’t even know these services exist. My goal is to foster a community that engages in difficult conversations and is comfortable with caring for the dying with the help of professionals who understand their journey.”
A lifelong resident of the Capital region, Crew currently lives in Waldorf with her family.
