Nomaindiya C. Mfeketo, Ambassador of The Republic of South Africa, was the honored guest speaker at the July 12 “Glow” Committee luncheon. At the top of the agenda were plans to incorporate the global community into this one-of-a-kind event to celebrate World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2022 on Oct. 8. The meeting took place at Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase, Maryland, which is also where the celebration will be held.
Hospice of the Chesapeake is partnering with Saks Fifth Avenue Chevy Chase to host a dinner and fashion show highlighting the best fashion trends of the fall season. The planning for this glamorous fundraiser is already bringing together leaders from the communities of fashion, healthcare, business, and philanthropy with members of the diplomatic corps, including the honorary chairs Ambassador Mfeketo and Dame Karen E. Pierce, Ambassador of The United Kingdom.
Key members tasked with organizing the event shared their progress with the committee and honored guests, emphasizing how this regional event will have a far-reaching impact. Mfeketo spoke of the importance of commemorating World Hospice and Palliative Care Day to draw attention to its need not only in her country and our country, but around the globe. Others spoke of the importance of access to advanced illness, end-of-life, and bereavement care, with a focus on quality of life and celebrating families and their legacies and how this event can help make that possible.
“Glow” will be staged throughout the store and orchestrated by renowned Washington, D.C., event planner André Wells on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2022, which is Oct. 8. Funds raised from the event will support the work of the nonprofit Hospice of the Chesapeake as well as its South African sister hospice, Brits-Hartbeespoort Hospice. The organization has grown and expanded over its 42 years to care for people living with life-limiting illness and their families in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and Prince George’s counties.
